Stay tuned for the big finale…

Updates

We’re about three weeks away from being done with this semester and I could not be happier. I graduate in December and i’m expecting my next and final semester to be extremely rough. I’m looking forward to a summer of no school and hopefully an internship.

SCVNGR

We have gotten so much accomplished with our SCVNGR project! The LSU Hilltop Arboretum has been a dream to work with! We have been coming up with some great tactics in order to promote their Plant Fest event in October! It seems like many people are missing out on everything the arboretum has to offer. The arboretum is definitely a hidden paradise to escape from school, work or anything else that stresses you out. We really want to get the word out because it is a great place that a lot of people are missing out on! I am looking forward to presenting out campaign because the woman that we have been working with from the arboretum is very excited to come and watch us present!

Alaska

This topic is what I am most excited about. On May 14th, my best friend and I will be taking a road trip from Indiana to Alaska. We will be taking this trip with my grandpa and we will be riding in an RV. I am so excited to be able to have this experience and be able to share it with my best friend and family. I definitely think that this trip will give me a chance to familiarize myself with places that are outside of my personal comfort zone. I have never been to Canada before and I am very much looking forward to experiencing everything it has to offer. Another cool thing is that I will be able to use this blog to document my trip along the way (if I have an internet connection) or document after my trip.

Internship

I think I may have finally gained a lead on an internship! Finally! I am really looking forward to applying for this internship because I really need to get some experience. I have no doubt in my mind that I will be able to pick up on everything that the company has to offer. I’m looking forward to soaking up the professional side of public relations and how the real world actually functions. I’m tired of reading about it and am ready to immerse myself in it.

Goals

My goals thus far are  to work extremely hard to get good finals grades, get an internship and get ready to take every experience as a public relations learning opportunity. My goals are pretty general because I like to have a raw outline to work from.

Getting down to it!

Updates

The biggest update that I have for my readers is that my group has finally found a non-profit organization! Most exciting news I have gotten in a while! We will be using SCVNGR to promote the LSU Hilltop Arboretum! We were extremely worried that we were not going to be able to find a non-profit to work with but we were able to land a great organization that will be extremely fun to work with!

SCVNGR

My latest update with SCVNGR is the making of the trek! Linden and I will be meeting with the LSU Hilltop Arboretum tomorrow to sit down and discuss exactly what they would like to gain from the trek and how they would like to execute the prizes. There are many fun activities that the LSU Hilltop Arboretum will be putting on that we will be able to utilize the SCVNGR trek for!

Goals

My first goal for this week is to finish the trek for the LSU Hilltop Arboretum. The trek for the Arboretum will include challenges and prizes that participants can win. Also, the trek will hopefully increase attendance at the Arboretum and participation in all Arboretum activities. Secondly, I would like to complete any work that will be due the week I get back from spring break. Getting all of my work done before spring break will allow me to relax and have fun!

Internship

This internship search is still going on. I went to an information seminar for an internship with Southwestern Advantage yesterday. The informational seminar was very informative but unfortunately I am unable to participate in the internship because I will have to be gone for the entire summer and I already have previous engagements in Louisiana that I cannot reschedule. I will not lose hope and I will continue to use the internship database for PRSSA and the Manship School.

Spring Break

So, I am extremely excited for spring break.  Three days. We leave for Texas on Friday. Once we get to Texaswe will be swimming, riding on jet skis, shopping and sleeping in every day! While in Texas we will be celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday by attending a surprise show! Once we leave Texas, we will be on our way to my parents house in Louisiana!

Ron Paul

We haven’t had any more assignments on our candidates but I have been keeping up with Ron Paul. I wish he had a better shot at the presidency because I really do believe that he would make a difference.

Under Pressure

Overall

As the great author, Hunter S. Thompson once said, “If you’re going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you’re going to be locked up.” Though I am crazy, thankfully I don’t think  that I am at the point of getting locked up. Deadlines, assignments and projects are the culprits in my temporary loss of sanity and hopefully they will soon be defeated and put to the past. My sights are set on finding a non-profit organization and trying to find a way to make Spring break get here faster. Though I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel with my projects, my only thoughts are of temporarily, lifelessly floating in a pool as far away from homework and tests as i can get. I AM OVERWHELMED.

SCVNGR

SCVNGR is the main reason that I may have to have hair transplants as the age of 21. My group is ferociously working on landing a non-profit to accompany us on this wonderful opportunity. We THINK that we are getting pretty close in the selection process and hope to make a partnership within this next week. We can only hope! Other than finding a non-profit, I think my group is working extremely hard. We are all still very dedicated and only focused on seeing the best in this situation and trying to make it work! Though times are getting tough we are all maintaining our composure and seeing everything through!

Update

To give you an update on my week, I am finally at the point where I am able to relax with all of my other classes. At the beginning of this week I had two tests. My first test was an economics test that severely lowered my confidence. My second test was a history test that I think I did pretty well on and I am excited to find out the outcome. Today, I met with my counselor to SIGN GRADUATION PAPERS and schedule my classes for MY LAST SEMESTER OF COLLEGE EVER! As you can tell, I am very excited for my last semester and to finallyyyyy graduate. It is a very weird feeling to know that I will be done with college at the end of this year. The most bizarre part of being done with college is that i’ll be done with this repetitive schedule of classes and homework. I’m sure that the working in the real world will be much more difficult than college life but I am really excited to give it a try!

Stay Classy!

Goals

My main goal for this upcoming week is to be caught up with all of my schoolwork, so I will be able to actually relax over Spring break. Secondly, I hope that we are able to start our partnership with a non-profit so we can get the SCVNGR ball rolling!

Keep on keepin’ on: keeping up with the fast-paced PR world

Overall

Vrooooommm! This class is flying by! I feel like this class just started a week ago! So much is going on! I’ve learned so much! Everything is whirling around my head and I am attempting to keep everything balanced. I think I am doing a pretty good job of keeping up in all of my classes, especially this one. We have been mainly focusing on our politician work and personal branding assignments. I find the politician work very interesting because I am learning things about the candidates that I would have never come across if I had not had to do research for the many assignments. The personal branding assignments are very special because they give you a chance to express your unique qualities while still remaining professional.

Twitter Assignment

We recently were given an assignment which involved Twitter and campus interaction. I really enjoyed this assignment because it got us out of the class room and interacting with people via social media. The people were fun and the weather was extremely beautiful! Walking through campus on a beautiful day was very refreshing and uplifting. In the assignment we had to take pictures of school spirit, our favorite place on campus and even reference a “fun fact” that we thought many people didn’t know about. The assignment was a great example of using technology and social media to interact with students and get to know more about the way they view LSU and the world.

SCVNGR Update

Some recent updates with our SCVNGR assignment include finding a non-profit and making our “trek”. We having a little trouble with our commitment deadline. Wahhhh! Though this situation has been a little stressful we are positive that it will all work out. We’re not too far behind and our group is filled with talented, dedicated and intelligent people. We’ll get it done! Since we are having trouble with our commitment deadline, we have fallen a little behind on our time to produce a “trek”. The “trek” seems like it will take a favorable amount of time to complete, so I hope that we will be able to get started on it soon! All deadlines aside, I am still really enjoying learning about SCVNGR. We are really lucky to have landed this opportunity to work on this project.

Politician

As I stated in my last blog, my politician for this assignment is, Ron Paul. I am extremely excited to be learning about Ron Paul and his campaign. This assignment keeps me up to date with the Republican race for president and exactly what stances all the candidates hold on particular issues. Overall, I agree with Ron Paul and his stance on issues and what he believes is best for our country.

Keep following my blog to remain updated on what I am learning throughout the semester!

Continuing the journey with a politician addition

Overall

I think I am finally getting the hang of the assignments in this class! This class is teaching me many valuable skills and helps to enforce all the things that I have previously learned. My favorite part of this course so far is preparing all of the documents that we will be presenting to our future client! One of the more difficult things that I have had to do this week is start back up with school after celebrating over Mardi Gras break!

Group

Everything with my SCVNGR group has been going very well. We all have been very understanding of one another and we all work hard to complete our assigned sections. I am proud of how versatile and inventive our group is. Our group came up with a  pretty snazzy name, PRservingbr! We should be meeting with our perspective client within the next week or two and I cannot wait to get started!

Politician Addition

Our most recent assignment involves writing various forms of media about a politician of our choice. The politician i chose was Ron Paul. I chose Ron Paul because he is a candidate that i truly agree with and understand. I believe that Paul holds a genuine stance on all of the political issues and really believes that our country has a lot to work on before things can become normal again. I respect Ron Paul because he has experience in one branch of the armed forces as well as the medical field. Some people interpret Ron Paul’s views as far-fetched because they are too accustomed to how things work and are afraid of what might happen if things being to change. I also respect that Ron Paul addresses issues as they come and that he doesn’t tell the public what he thinks they want to hear. He tells it like it is.

I wanted to use this blog entry as an outlet to sum up what I have been working on in this class so far. I truly am enjoying everything we have been doing in this class and look forward to gaining as much knowledge as possible about the field of mass communication.

Goals

I wanted to establish my personal goals for this semester to help keep myself on track. My main goal is to learn! I want to take this entire class as an opportunity to expand my knowledge and experience. My second goal is to communicate with my group to the best of my ability. Third, I want my group members to be confident in my reliability and dependability.

The Beginning of a Fun and Interesting Journey with Personal Branding and SCVNGR!

Overview

For my first blog post I really wanted to elaborate on the beginnings of my group project with SCVNGR! Our group has decided to work with a non-profit organization to promote their art festival that will be held in May. We decided to work with this non profit because we are all interested in the arts and believe that the use of  SCVNGR will be able to get a lot of people in the community interested in the Baton Rouge art culture.

Group

I am very impressed with the members of the class that I have been grouped with. All of the group members are taking this project very seriously and have a lot of great ideas to work with! We all are able to agree on different areas of the project and see it as a professional opportunity. Overall, I am very excited to see how this project evolves!

SCVNGR

The main thing I wanted to post in my first blog are the ways SCVNGR will be able to promote this non-profit organization and my expectations for the project. SCVNGR will be able to provide the non-profit organization with a FREE media outlet to use to advertise their upcoming festival. After looking through the non-profit organization’s website I gathered that they have a good relationship with the community through their festivals and outings but nothing that gets patrons active through a mobile phone. Obviously, SCVNGR is the perfect thing to get people interacting with thenon-profit organization and keep up with different promotions! I hope to gain a lot of information to put into the “trek” we make. I expect the trek to bring in a lot of new art patrons!

Overall I am very confident in my team and our ability to make this as successful as possible! By using all of our resources I hope to gain a lot of experience as well as promote the non-profit organization in the best possible way. I hope to gain all I can from the use of SCVNGR and the execution of our “trek.”

Lastly, I hope that this experience using SCVNGR will help me to strengthen my personal brand and help me to gain experience in advertising my skills and what I have to offer. I value this project because I believe it will be able to push me out of my comfort zone and enable me to get hands on with an organization!
